An ultra-fast canvas that stays calm

Your whiteboard in ChatGPT,
drawn in the chat, kept by the team.

For founders, agencies and marketing teams: ask ChatGPT for the plan and it lays out notes, columns, mind maps and flowcharts on a Storyflow board everyone opens.

Does ChatGPT have a whiteboard?

A ChatGPT whiteboard is a shared board that ChatGPT can read and build on: install the Storyflow plugin from ChatGPT's plugin directory, ask in the chat, and the notes, columns, mind maps and flowcharts land on a board your whole team opens in a browser. Storyflow is an AI visual workspace that gives ChatGPT a whiteboard on one infinite canvas: walls of cards, to-do lists, tables, documents, mind maps, flowcharts with labelled arrows, charts and slide decks side by side. ChatGPT does the thinking on its own model, so the plugin spends none of your Storyflow AI credits, and the board stays after the chat is closed.

ChatGPT has no whiteboard of its own. OpenAI describes Canvas as a pane for writing and code that opens beside the chat, and it holds a document, not a board: there are no cards to drag, no columns and no arrows. Ask ChatGPT alone to run a brainstorm and you get a strong list in a private conversation, or a picture of a diagram nobody can edit. Then someone copies it, line by line, into whatever board the team uses, and from that moment the chat and the board drift apart.

With the plugin, the order changes. In any chat, type @ and pick Storyflow, or choose it from the + menu, then name the board. ChatGPT reads first: the cards on the board, its tables and documents, the text of PDF, Word and Excel files on it, and what changed in the last day or week and who changed it. Then it builds. A section arrives as a wall, a titled column with up to 40 cards in one request. A mind map arrives whole, with up to 60 branches and sub-branches. A flowchart is up to 40 boxes joined by labelled arrows. Keep the board open in Storyflow and each section appears as ChatGPT adds it.

Ask for the shape as well as the content, because each shape answers a different question. A row of walls is for things you will sort: ideas by theme, tasks by status, posts by week. A mind map is for one idea and its branches, each a label of three to eight words. A flowchart is for steps that go somewhere, like an approval route, with the condition written on the arrow. A table is for several things that share the same fields, like suppliers with a price and a date. A to-do card is a checklist, one line per task, on a single card. Say what the board is for if you are unsure, and ChatGPT picks the shape.

Here is an example. Harbour & Hale, a five-person agency, runs a kickoff for a coffee roaster's spring campaign and leaves 31 loose notes on the board. The account lead asks ChatGPT four things. First: "Sort the notes on the Spring Roast board into walls by theme." ChatGPT moves all 31 into five walls, Audience (7), Message (6), Channels (8), Risks (4) and Open questions (6), and retypes none of them. Second: a mind map of the campaign idea, one centre, 4 branches and 16 sub-branches, 21 notes in all. Third: a flowchart of who signs off what, 6 boxes and 7 arrows, with "if the client asks for changes" written on the arrow that loops back. Fourth: a to-do card with the 9 tasks due before the first shoot. Four requests, one board, and the account lead shares it with the client from Storyflow.

Now the limits. Through the plugin, ChatGPT does not generate images, and a photo you attach in the chat does not reach Storyflow; ask instead for the "Add your photos" link, which works for 15 minutes and takes up to 200 pictures. ChatGPT cannot read the comments on a board, and it cannot create share links. It has no tool that deletes a card, so a section you ask for twice lands beside the first and you remove the spare by hand. It places cards, arrows and lines; it does not sketch freehand. Storyflow runs in the browser with no desktop or phone app, and boards export as PNG, JPEG or PDF.

Ultra fast from brief to board

Four steps from a chat to a board your team works on.

The first time takes a few minutes. After that, every chat can start from the board instead of a blank page.

01

Install Storyflow from the plugin directory

Open the Storyflow listing in ChatGPT's plugin directory and select Install plugin. Sign in to Storyflow when asked, then choose which projects ChatGPT may use.

02

Ask for the board in your own words

In a chat, type @ and pick Storyflow, or choose it from the + menu. Name the board and the shape you want. For example: "Read the Spring Roast board, then add a wall for each channel with the three tasks it needs this week." A wall appears on the board for each channel.

03

Rearrange it by hand or by asking

Drag cards, rename walls and rewrite notes yourself, or tell ChatGPT what to change: "Move the radio card to Risks" or "Join the brief to the first box with an arrow." It edits the cards you name and leaves the rest where they are.

04

Share the board with the team

Share the board from Storyflow with a view-only link, which opens in a browser with no account. People who should comment or draw sign in, and anyone a paid member invites to the board joins free.

Walls of cards

Loose notes sorted into columns

Ask ChatGPT to sort the notes on a board and it moves them into titled walls, named in your words, without retyping a single card. A new section arrives as a wall with up to 40 cards in one request.

Mind maps

One idea, up to 60 branches

ChatGPT builds the whole map in one request: a centre, branches and sub-branches, each a short label, coloured by branch and joined by lines. Every node is a note you can drag, rewrite or connect to the rest of the board.

Flowcharts

Steps joined by labelled arrows

Describe a process and ChatGPT lays it out on a grid: up to 40 boxes, each in its own place, and arrows with the condition or the time written on them. Lines can be stepped, straight or curved, and dashed for the optional path.

ChatGPT does the drawing. Your Storyflow credits stay untouched.

The plugin runs on ChatGPT's own model and your ChatGPT plan, so nothing ChatGPT builds uses Storyflow AI credits. An invited free Storyflow account can make 25 plugin actions a week, reset every Monday (UTC). Plus, Pro and Max have no weekly limit. Storyflow is paid-only during early access, with plans from $7.99 a month billed annually ($9.99 monthly), and anyone a paid member invites to a board joins free.

Built for people with taste

Where a whiteboard from a chat usually breaks.

ChatGPT is quick with ideas. The slow part was always getting them onto the board the team actually uses.

A launch board with six coloured phase walls, each holding a list of key deliverables and a checklist, and a task status wall at the end

The workshop

Thirty notes and no order

Sorted, not retyped: ChatGPT moves the cards already on the board into walls in one request, so every note keeps its author's wording and no duplicate is left behind.

Sections with a line between them: Ask for one person's column to sit apart from the team's, and ChatGPT draws a dividing line and slides the sections apart to make room for it.

Labels you can scan: A card takes up to four small labels, such as Blocked, Week 2 or Client, so a status reads across the whole board at a glance.

A template to start from: Ask ChatGPT to find a Storyflow board template, such as a mind map or a project tracker, and put it on the board. Then ask it to rewrite the example cards for your project.

A crew and kit budget table with columns for item, supplier, cost, due date and status, a teammate's comment beside it and two cursors on the board

The context

A chat that has never seen the board

It reads before it writes: Ask about a project and ChatGPT reads the board first: the notes, the to-do cards, the tables and the documents. Its answer starts from your plan, not from your summary of it.

What changed this week: Ask what changed on the board in the last day or week. ChatGPT lists what was added, edited, moved or deleted, and which teammate did it.

Files on the board, read: ChatGPT reads the text of PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files on the board, so a brief or a supplier quote becomes cards and tables without anyone retyping it.

Found by name: ChatGPT searches your projects, boards and documents, so "the Spring Roast board" is enough to point it at the right place.

The team

One person's chat, everyone's board

The kickoff board becomes the walkthrough: Presentation mode goes fullscreen and steps through the board one wall, note, image or document at a time, so the client sees the plan in the order you built it.

Edited together: On every paid plan, teammates edit the same board at the same time, and anyone a paid member invites to it joins free.

Claude on the same board: A colleague who works in Claude, Gemini or Grok connects their own Storyflow account through https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp and builds on the same boards you share with them.

Access you set: You choose which projects ChatGPT may open and whether it may make changes. Each connection ends after 30 days, and ChatGPT then asks you to sign in again.

ChatGPT whiteboard: questions

What founders, agencies and marketing teams ask before they give ChatGPT a board.

Not of its own, but it can work on one. ChatGPT's Canvas is a pane for writing and code, not a board. Install the Storyflow plugin from ChatGPT's plugin directory and ChatGPT reads and builds on a shared Storyflow board: walls of cards, to-do lists, tables, documents, mind maps, flowcharts with labelled arrows, charts and slide decks. Your team opens the board in a browser, with or without ChatGPT.

Storyflow is our pick for teams planning a project, and it is our product. The basis: ChatGPT can sort the notes already on a board into walls, build mind maps, flowcharts, tables, to-do lists and decks beside them, and report what changed this week, with no Storyflow AI credits spent. Choose Miro, also in ChatGPT's plugin directory, when your boards already live in Miro or you need comments and share links handled from the chat; its free tier keeps three boards editable (Miro pricing, October 2026).

Open the Storyflow listing in ChatGPT's plugin directory and select Install plugin. Sign in to Storyflow, then choose which projects ChatGPT may use and whether it may make changes. In a chat, type @ and pick Storyflow, or choose it from the + menu. Availability depends on your ChatGPT plan, workspace and region, and in a Business or Enterprise workspace an admin can turn plugins on or off.

ChatGPT can build notes, to-do cards, headings, links, tables and documents; walls, which are titled columns of cards; mind maps; flowcharts and diagrams with labelled arrows; charts and dashboards; slide decks; colour palettes; shot cards and shoot-day schedules; and ready-made board templates. It can also move cards, group loose cards into walls, divide a board into sections and connect any two cards with an arrow.

Yes. ChatGPT reads a Storyflow board's notes, to-do cards, tables, documents and the arrows between them, plus the text of PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files on the board. It can summarise a board, list who is on it, and report what was added, edited, moved or deleted in the last day or week, and by whom. Read access is always on; changes are your choice.

Yes. Ask ChatGPT to sort the notes on the Storyflow board by theme, and it moves them into titled walls in one request. The cards are moved, not copied, so every note keeps its author's wording. Name the walls yourself if you already know them, such as Audience, Message and Risks, or let ChatGPT name them from what the notes say.

Yes, through a link. A photo you attach in the ChatGPT chat does not reach Storyflow, so ask ChatGPT for the "Add your photos" link and pick the pictures from your phone or computer. The link works for 15 minutes and takes up to 200 pictures. ChatGPT can also add pictures from direct image addresses it has, but it does not generate images through the plugin.

It cannot delete cards, read board comments, create share links or generate images through the plugin, and it does not sketch freehand. It cannot grow a mind map it built in one go: asking again puts a second map on the board. Storyflow itself runs in the browser with no desktop or phone app, and boards export as PNG, JPEG or PDF.

Storyflow is paid-only during early access: Plus is $7.99 a month billed annually ($9.99 monthly), Pro $14 ($19 monthly) and Max $39 ($49 monthly). The plugin runs on ChatGPT's model and your ChatGPT plan, so it uses no Storyflow AI credits. An invited free account can make 25 plugin actions a week, reset every Monday (UTC), and Plus, Pro and Max have no weekly limit.

Yes. The board is an ordinary Storyflow board, so it stays after the chat ends. Share it from Storyflow with a view-only link, which opens in a browser with no account. To comment or draw, the client signs in, and anyone a paid member invites to the board joins free. ChatGPT cannot create or change share links, so sharing stays with you.

The board is the same; the way in differs. ChatGPT installs Storyflow from its plugin directory. Claude, Gemini and Grok add Storyflow as a custom connector with the address https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp, and storyflow.so/mcp has the setup for each. All of them build the same walls, mind maps and flowcharts, so one teammate can plan in ChatGPT while another reviews in Claude.

No. Developer mode is for custom MCP servers that are not in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Storyflow is listed there, so you install it with Install plugin and sign in, with no address to paste and no setting to switch on. A guide that tells you to turn on Developer mode for Storyflow describes the setup used before the listing went live on 24 October 2026; skip that step.

Only the ones you choose. When you sign in, Storyflow asks whether ChatGPT may use all your projects or only the ones you pick, and whether it may make changes; read access is always on. You can also allow documents outside projects. ChatGPT can start a new project only when you granted all projects. Every connection ends after 30 days, and ChatGPT then asks you to sign in again.
