Line Styles, Arrowheads & Connect/Disconnect

Last updated: May 2026

Lines on the canvas are more than just edges between elements. You can change line weight, dash style, curve type, arrowhead, color, and add labels — or quickly connect and disconnect a group of elements with a single shortcut.

Drawing a Line

  • Toolbar: Pick the Line tool
  • Keyboard: Hover the canvas and press L

Click an element's edge to start the line, then click another element's edge to attach it. The line stays attached as you move either element.

Line Style Options

  • Weight: Thin, medium, thick
  • Dash style: Solid, dashed, dotted
  • Curve type: Straight, smooth curve, right-angle (orthogonal)
  • Color: Pick from the palette or use the eye dropper

Arrowheads

  • None: A plain line — for grouping or pure connection
  • Single: Arrow on the end — direction of flow
  • Double: Arrows on both ends — bidirectional
  • Open / closed / filled: Different arrowhead shapes for visual variety

Line Labels

Add a text label on a line to describe the relationship — "depends on", "leads to", "alternative". Labels stay attached as you move endpoints.

Connect & Disconnect Multiple Elements

Select multiple elements and use the Connect dropdown:

  • Connect in Sequence: Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + L
  • Connect to Hub: Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + H
  • Connect as Loop: Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + E
  • Disconnect: Removes all connections between the selected elements
