Connect Claude, ChatGPT and Other AI Tools (MCP)

Last updated: October 2026

The Storyflow MCP server lets the AI tools you already use work with your Storyflow projects. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Claude Code, Cursor and any other assistant that supports MCP can read your boards and documents, and build new ones in the projects you allow.

"What changed on the launch board this week, and who changed it?"
"Turn this brief into a Storyflow board with the plan, the tasks and the open questions."

The address

Every assistant connects to the same address:

https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp

You also find it in Settings, then Storyflow MCP, next to the exact steps for each tool.

Before you start

  • You need a Storyflow account. You sign in with it when you connect.
  • Your AI tool has to support remote MCP servers. Some only do on a paid plan of their own: ChatGPT needs Plus or above, Perplexity needs Pro or above, Raycast needs Pro, Figma needs a Full seat on a paid plan, and VS Code needs a GitHub Copilot plan.
  • The Gemini app takes custom apps only on a personal Google account with Keep Activity on, in the US, for people 18 or over, in English.
  • On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds Storyflow in the xAI console first.
  • Devin needs the Manage MCP Servers permission.
  • On Claude's Free plan you can add one custom connector.

Connect Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Storyflow, paste the address and click Continue.
  4. Choose Sign in now, click Add, and sign in to Storyflow when asked.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. On Business and Enterprise plans an admin turns it on.
  2. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and click the plus button.
  3. Name it Storyflow, choose Public endpoint and paste the address.
  4. Create it and sign in to Storyflow when asked.

Connect Gemini

  1. On gemini.google.com, open Settings, then Connected Apps.
  2. Under Custom apps, click Add a custom app.
  3. Paste the address, click Next and sign in to Storyflow when asked.

Connect Grok

  1. Open grok.com/connectors, click New Connector, then Custom.
  2. Paste the address and sign in to Storyflow when asked.

Connect Claude Code

Run this in your terminal, then run /mcp inside Claude Code and sign in:

claude mcp add --transport http storyflow https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp

Connect Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and other tools

Add Storyflow as a remote server over HTTP in your tool's MCP settings, then sign in when asked. Each tool writes the server a little differently:

  • Cursor, in mcp.json: { "mcpServers": { "storyflow": { "url": "https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp" } } }
  • VS Code, in .vscode/mcp.json: { "servers": { "storyflow": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp" } } }
  • Gemini CLI, in your terminal: gemini mcp add --transport http storyflow https://mcp.storyflow.so/mcp, then /mcp auth storyflow inside Gemini CLI to sign in

Storyflow speaks Streamable HTTP, often just called HTTP. It does not serve SSE. For any other tool, Settings, then Storyflow MCP shows its exact steps.

Choosing what the assistant may use

When you sign in, Storyflow asks:

  • Which projects it may use: all of your projects, or only the ones you pick.
  • Whether it may make changes. Without changes it can only read.
  • Whether it may also use your documents outside projects: your private documents and the ones shared with you. It reads them, and with changes allowed it can edit them and add them to a board. This starts on when you allow all your projects and off when you pick projects; you can change it either way.

If Storyflow does not recognise the app asking to connect, it shows a warning, and you tick I trust this app before you can continue.

What it can do

  • Read your boards, notes, documents and files, and what changed on a board and who changed it.
  • Build notes, groups, tables, charts, diagrams, documents and slide decks, placed on the board where they belong.

What it adds shows up on the board while you have it open.

Limits

A free account (today, one invited by a paid member) gets 50 actions a week from its assistant. Every read and every change it makes counts as one action, so that is enough to build a board or two and ask a few questions. The count resets every Monday (UTC). Plus, Pro and Max have no limit. When the week's actions are used up, your assistant tells you, and nothing on your boards changes.

Personal keys

Some tools can send a key but cannot run a sign-in, such as GitHub Copilot's cloud agent. Open Settings, then Storyflow MCP and choose the tool: it opens straight on the key form. Tools that can do either show Use a personal key instead. You see the key once, so copy it straight into the tool.

Disconnecting

Open Settings, then Connected apps, and remove the assistant or key. It loses access within a minute. Every connection also ends on its own after 30 days, and your assistant asks you to sign in again. A personal key stops working after 30 days instead; create a new one in Settings, then Storyflow MCP.

Troubleshooting

  • It asks me to sign in again. The connection reached its 30 days or was removed in Connected apps. Sign in again and choose your projects.
  • It cannot see a project. You did not pick that project when you signed in. Disconnect, connect again and pick it.
  • It cannot change anything. You connected without changes. Connect again and allow changes for the projects you want.
